You can also easily infuse your herbs into butter, oils, and tinctures right from your kitchen.
What Is Cannabutter?
The most crucial ingredient for making your cannabis-infused treats, cannabutter, is what you think it is: the combination of butter and cannabis.
Cannabutter contains the cannabinoids and terpenes of the strain you started with. This means you can create a THC-rich ingredient, a CBD-rich one, or something more balanced.
Although you’re ingesting weed instead of smoking it, you still gain the same benefit as you would from a joint and will still get the same effects from THC or CBD. Although, you’ll want to be careful, as edible THC can hit several times harder than inhaled THC.
Making and eating weed treats you made yourself is highly satisfying and will save you money in the long run. There are a few different ways to make cannabutter, some old and some new.
How To Make Cannabutter the Traditional Way
Home chefs have been whipping up DIY cannabutter for decades, much to the chagrin of their partners and roommates. Because it’s not an easy process, and it leaves the kitchen in a mess.
The first and most crucial step is to bake your cannabis before making the cannabutter. This step is called decarboxylation. Decarbing is a heat-driven process of turning inactive cannabinoids (THCa, CBDa) into active ones (THC, CBD, etc.).
Bake your flower, whatever strain, in an oven for 40 minutes to one hour. The cannabis will need to be rotated every 20 minutes to prevent burning.
You’ll know it is decarbed when the color of the weed changes from a bright green to a darker brownish-green.
It’s essential that you do not overcook your cannabis as it will destroy the terps. Terpenes give weed its smell, flavor, and also medicinal properties.
Now that you have your activated weed, the next step is to cook it on a stovetop. This step is where it starts to get messy and time-consuming.
In an empty glass jar, combine butter and the decarbed flower. Place in a heavy saucepan filled with water. Simmer on low for several hours. You’ll want to stay in the kitchen to check on the mixture every 15 minutes. Never leave the room with the stovetop on.
Once you finish the infusion, place two layers of cheesecloth over a bowl and pour the mixture onto the cheesecloth. You can dispose of the flower and let the liquefied cannabutter cool.
Once cool enough to handle, place in the refrigerator to finish solidifying. If there’s leftover liquid once the butter has been set, separate it from the butter with a knife as it has no use.
It sounds like a lot of effort, right? Luckily there is an easier way to make your cannabutter.

What You’ll Need
- MagicalButter Machine
- MagicalButter DecarbBox and thermometer
- Sunflower Lecithin
- Unsalted butter, softened
- Cannabis flower of choice
How To Make Homemade Cannabutter
Step 1: Always Decarb
Similar to the traditional ways of making cannabutter, you need to decarb your weed. Without doing this, you won’t get a high-quality end product.
Weed contains tetrahydrocannabinol acid (THCA) and cannabidiol acid (CBDA); these are dormant versions of THC and CBD.
Once THCA and CBDA are exposed to heat, they undergo decarboxylation or decarbing. This is a process that transforms THCA and CBDA into THC and CBD.
Using the DecarBox ensures maximum efficiency and reduces the smell of the herb you’re baking.
Preheat the oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. We recommend you to use this time to break up your weed.
Now place them into the DecarBox and let them cook for about 30 minutes or until golden brown.
Step 2: Load the MagicalButter Machine
It’s time to infuse your butter with the cannabis you decarbed earlier.
Be sure you are using unsalted butter when infusing your weed. Clarified or ghee butter is best as they have minimal fats and milk, helping with minimum product loss.
Put your decarbed butter into the Magical Butter Machine and add the butter with a tablespoon of lecithin per cup. You can skip the sunflower lecithin, but this does help keep the final mixture thoroughly mixed.
Press just two buttons and watch as the Magical Butter Machine heats, chops, and stirs the infusion for two hours, leaving you with a potent infused butter ready to strain.
Step 3: Filter the Liquid Gold
Forget the hassle of a cheesecloth. It can be too delicate and block butter from transferring into the bowel.
The Magical Filter Bag will easily strain the infusion into a mixing bowl or measuring cup.
Pour the infusion and lightly squeeze the solid matter with a silicone glove as it strains. Be careful as the liquid will be hot.
As you strain, you will notice the plant matter and sediment will become trapped in the Magical Filter Bag.
Now, all left is to pour your mixture into a butter mold and let it sit in the fridge until it hardens.
If you want to make your life even easier, you should check out the Magical Filter Press. Just pour your infusion through the stainless steel screen and watch as it effortlessly removes all of the unwanted plant matter from your finished product.
Step 4: Fill Butter Molds and Store
Storing your cannabutter is a personal preference. However, if it’s something you plan on using regularly, a butter mold will make it very easy to access.
The silicone molds help the infusion take the shape of a traditional stick of butter, with a fancy “MAGICAL” etched into the bar.
You can wrap the cannabutter sticks and let them sit in your fridge or place them in your butter dish for easy access. Wrapping it up isn’t even necessary though. You can actually leave the butter in the molds since they come with a lid for storage.
How To Add Cannabutter to Every Meal
Adding cannabutter to your meals really is as easy as it sounds. When you think about it, it’s just the same as regular butter, but with THC.
The number one golden rule with all THC products is to start low and go slow. You will want to sample it lightly at the start until you understand the potency.
We also would suggest avoiding frying anything in your cannabutter. This will destroy the delicious THC content.
Next time you make a pasta sauce that uses butter, add some cannabutter. Infused Hot Sauce can also get an extra kick with some weed-infused butter in the mix.
When we say the possibilities are endless, we mean it. The term “mashed” in mashed potatoes takes on a new meaning with a bit of cannabutter.
MagicalButter Machine: Less Cooking Time Means More Chilling Time
There is nothing wrong with the traditional way of making cannabutter. However, it’s not ideal if you want to spend less time cooking and cleaning.
The MagicalButter Machine takes all the guesswork, messy cleanup, and long wait times out of making your own cannabutter. Use the time you save by using the MagicalButter Machine to research recipes and get creative with your next cannabutter batch.
