Actor David Krumholtz Reveals Near-Death Experience After Smoking Cannabis
The Incident
Veteran actor David Krumholtz, known for his roles in “The Santa Clause” and “Harold & Kumar,” recently revealed a frightening health scare that he claims nearly cost him his life after smoking cannabis.
During a candid interview, Krumholtz described experiencing severe physical symptoms shortly after consuming cannabis, which rapidly escalated to a point where he feared for his life.
“I genuinely thought I was going to die,” Krumholtz shared. “What started as a typical experience quickly turned into something much more serious and terrifying.”
Medical Details
According to Krumholtz, the incident involved extreme physical reactions that required immediate medical attention. He reported experiencing:
- Dramatically elevated heart rate
- Difficulty breathing
- Severe anxiety and panic
- Temporary loss of motor control
- Sensations of chest pressure
Medical professionals who treated Krumholtz explained that while rare, severe adverse reactions to cannabis can occur, especially with high-potency products or in individuals with underlying health conditions.
Risk Factors Identified
The actor’s medical team identified several factors that may have contributed to the severity of his reaction:
“They told me that my particular combination of pre-existing conditions, medication interactions, and the potency of the cannabis created a perfect storm,” Krumholtz explained.
The incident has sparked discussion among medical professionals about the importance of understanding individual risk factors when using cannabis products, regardless of their legal status or perceived safety.
Public Response
Since sharing his experience, Krumholtz has received an outpouring of support from fans and fellow celebrities. Some have shared similar experiences, while others expressed surprise given cannabis’s generally accepted safety profile.
“I’m not trying to demonize cannabis,” clarified Krumholtz. “I’m simply sharing my experience so others might be more cautious and aware that serious reactions can happen, even to experienced users.”
Broader Context
Krumholtz’s revelation comes at a time when cannabis use is increasingly normalized and legalized across the United States. Health experts note that while severe adverse reactions like Krumholtz’s are uncommon, they shouldn’t be dismissed.
“As cannabis becomes more accessible, we’re seeing a wider range of reactions in a more diverse population of users,” said Dr. Elena Rodriguez, a toxicologist not involved in Krumholtz’s care but who commented on the general phenomenon. “What’s generally safe for most people can still present serious risks for others.”
Moving Forward
Krumholtz expressed that he has no plans to use cannabis again following the incident but maintains he isn’t advocating for prohibition.
“I just want people to understand that just because something is natural or legal doesn’t mean it’s without risks,” he said. “Know your body, know your limits, and maybe have a conversation with your doctor if you have any underlying health concerns.”
The actor is reportedly fully recovered from the incident and has returned to work on his upcoming projects.
Medical Recommendations
Healthcare professionals responding to Krumholtz’s story have offered the following advice for cannabis users:
- Consult with healthcare providers about potential drug interactions
- Start with low doses, especially with high-potency products
- Be aware of personal risk factors, including heart conditions and anxiety disorders
- Have a sober friend present when trying new products
- Seek immediate medical attention if experiencing severe symptoms

I have had some dizzy spells when coughing and when standing up from a sitting position.. I think i have POTS. Not sure if it is brought on by POT. I do have symptoms when smoking and coughing of almost passing out. Time to switch to edibles I guess.
I’d say he just had a severe anxiety attack sometimes the weed is just strong and it takes effect and it’s like my friend said you buy the ticket ride the ride …lol
This has happened to me before. Smoked, got in bed and 10 min later i thought i was going to have a heart attack. It has only happened once and during that period of my life i had a lot of stress and anxiety.
He had some fire ass weed and was HIGH as a KITE 🤣🤣🤣
Seriously, some people need education.
All he needed to do was cut a lemon in quarters and stick one quarter straight in the mouth. Kills the high immediately.
Krumholtz said, “I don’t want to demonise cannabis!” He just wants everyone to know he’s an arsehole.
SMH another useless media!
