The Drug Enforcement Section of the Southwest Region of the Oregon State Police (OSP) has disclosed that a recent raid on warehouses in White City, Oregon, resulted in the discovery of a staggering 250 tons of illicit marijuana, with an estimated street value of around $500 million.
Raid Uncovers Poor Living Conditions and Migrant Workers
In addition to the massive haul of marijuana, the OSP found over a hundred individuals, including migrant workers, living on the premises in dismal conditions without basic amenities like running water. The operation is part of a complex, ongoing investigation.
OSP Promises Further Updates
The Oregon State Police has confirmed that the investigation is expected to continue for several more weeks and will provide additional updates as more information becomes available.
Surge in Crime Rate Linked to Illegal Marijuana Farms
The recent discovery comes on the heels of Jackson County Sheriff Nathan Sickler’s testimony before a committee of the Oregon Legislature, where he highlighted a significant increase in crime rate due to the rapid growth of illegal marijuana farms in southern Oregon.
The Growing Issue: Crimes Tied to the Marijuana-Cannabis Industry
Sickler expressed his concern over various crimes, including stabbings, thefts, burglaries, homicides, sexual offenses, car accidents, and DUIs, all of which have been tied to the escalating prevalence of the marijuana-cannabis industry in the region.
