If you’re good at rolling joints, the U.S. government may want to have a talk with you. For research purposes, The National Institute of Drug Abuse needs joints, lots of joints.
Two days ago, the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) announced it was seeking a private contractor to roll “marijuana cigarettes” for ongoing research projects.
Marijuana Moment reports that the U.S. National Institute on Drug Abuse recently issued a notice looking for someone to “manufacture standardized marijuana cigarettes within a range of varying concentrations of delta-9-THC”.
Other job requirements include being able to “analyze and characterize various drugs of abuse including cannabinoids.” Applications are due in a couple of weeks and the posting will close in mid-May, but the NIDA notes applicants must be able to obtain the necessary licenses needed to handle a Schedule 1 drug.
Unfortunately, the government is not looking for just any stoner to roll it up. According to the NIDA’s listing, they want seasoned individuals with analytical chemistry experience, experience manufacturing cigarettes (tobacco or otherwise), access to a facility that can securely store the weed, and a clean record for Schedule I licensing clearances.
That may seem like a lot for such a simple task. However, there’s still hope for aspiring government weed rollers who don’t own a pharmaceutical lab.
If you read the listing, it’s not clear whether personal, as opposed to professional experience is enough to qualify an individual for the contract. Another good thing is that the listing also doesn’t mention mandatory drug testing.
NIDA’s newest job posting marks the second time the agency made a call-out for professional joint rollers. Last year, the organization posted a similar listing, presumably with little to no success.
