General info

Although the exact lineage of Maui Waui is often disputed, most people agree that this Sativa-dominant hybrid comes from the Islands of Maui, and has been around since the 60’s. As you can imagine, the fact that this strain has lasted through the decades is a testament to its positive effects and indeed, it has led to the creation of many new hybrid strains. In fact, Maui Waui was one of the first strains that had an increased THC content, back in a time where the average marijuana strain was well under 8%!

Grow info

The tall, lanky strain of Maui Waui is best suited to tropical climates, as this is where this strain was first conceived, however it is also suitable for indoor growth, providing there is a bright environment and suitably nutrient-rich soil. The average yield is a decent 350 to 450 gr/m2 and if flowering outdoors will be ready for harvest in August or September. The flowering time of Maui Waui is around 7-8 weeks, in an optimal temperature of course.

FLAVORS

The plants of this strain usually reach around 175 centimeters and have a hairy orange bud common to many hybrids. The aroma from Maui Waui is very 60’s indeed, with a citrus/tropical bouquet that is not intense or overbearing in the slightest, making it a perfect strain to smoke with discretion. As the name and its Island heritage suggests, this strain has a sweet tropical flavor that will make you feel like you’re right there on a beautiful desert Island.

STRAIN TEST

A 2016 test from Analytical 360 found the THC content for a carefully selected Maui Waui batch to come in at 14.87%, however, with the right conditions, and with an optimal plant, the THC content for this strain can be as high as 20%. The test also found the strain to contain 0.03% CBD with terpene content coming in at 1.371% (with 0.642% Myrcene and 0.357% Caryophyllene coming through in the taste and aroma).

EFFECTS

Don’t let the fact that this strain comes from the 60’s make you think that it is outdated or can’t compete with the new hybrid strains of today. Maui Waui is just as famous as Acapulco Gold and Red Hair Skunk. Users of Maui Waui tend to experience a light, happy and energetic high, perfect for smoking at any time of the day. This legendary strain can chill you out, while still allowing you to function to the best of your ability.

Maui Waui is considered to be a medium to high-grade medical strain that provides the happy high associated with Sativas, while the Indica content can provide medium range relief for aches, pains, and even migraines as a result of the body-numbing effects of this strain.

Users may expect the common dry eye and mouth as well as munchies as a result of consuming Maui Waui, while some other possible side-effects include dizziness and headaches and in more extreme cases possible paranoia from larger doses or consuming edibles. That being said, both these cases are always better alongside a higher than average tolerance
