No matter how good the weed you just picked up is, there are always going to be a few stems in there, holding your bud together. Not everyone has the patience to carefully pick the stems from their bowl and most people would just grind them up, but can you smoke weed stems?
The smartass answer: yes you can.
The real answer: yes you can, but you definitely shouldn’t!
Unless you’re down to your last few crumbs of weed and you’ve already scraped out all the baggies from your bag filled with baggies (we all have one of those) smoking weed stems is a pretty crappy idea.
‘But why?’ you ask. Here’s why:
3 reasons why you shouldn’t smoke weed stems
1. It probably won’t get you high
Stems barely contain any THC, so the amount of stems you’d have to smoke to actually get high is ridiculous.
2. Even if it does, it’s disgusting
Smoking weed stems is more like smoking wood chips than anything else. You will probably feel something resembling a high, but that’s like getting high from a dumpster fire — you could do it, but you absolutely shouldn’t.
3. The side effects are crazy
Among the long list of side effects, you could potentially get from smoking weed stems are respiratory issues (especially if you have asthma), nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and intense headaches. If you get migraines anyway, get ready for the mother of all migraines.
What else can you do with stems?
Just because you can’t smoke your stems doesn’t mean you have to throw them out. THC levels in stems are low, but when you get enough of them together you can still make some great stuff. If weed is difficult to get where you live, expensive, or you simply don’t like to waste anything, this little tweak to your smoking habits is going to give you the most bang for your buck.
Getting enough stems together to use for edibles is going to take a little while, so be sure to save every bit you can. Once you have about ⅓ cup of stems together, you’re ready to get cooking.
Brew some nice weed stem tea
To make weed tea, or stem tea as some call it, you’ll first have to decarboxylate all the stems you’ve collected. If you don’t know how to do that, this guide on how to decarb your weed will give you all the steps needed.
How to make weed stem tea?
Once your stems are perfectly decarbed, grind them up but be careful not to grind them to a powder. You can just put the ground up stems in an empty tea bag or an infuser and add it to a cup of hot water. Leave it in the water for a good 10-15 minutes to get all the goodness out of the stems and into your tea.
Stem tea by itself has a pretty strong taste that a lot of people might not enjoy too much, so you can also add some chamomile or mint to your tea.
Weed tea won’t get you as high as a good joint or bowl, but it’s the perfect drink if you’re looking for deep relaxation and some mild euphoria at the end of a long day.
Drink up and enjoy your high!
