New York became the 15th state to legalize recreational cannabis!
On Wednesday the 31th of March Gov. Andrew M. Coumo signed the cannabis legislation after the State Legislature passed the bill.
This long awaited event makes cannabis no longer a criminal offence. It allows people to carry 3 ounces of cannabis or 24 grams of concentrates. You can now also grow your own bud without getting into trouble. It is allowed to grow up to 6 plants at home. People smoke cannabis in public places where tobacco smoking is allowed. This would allow for cannabis cafe’s to open like the typical dutch coffeeshops.
Along with the new rules comes a special program to compensate the minority community’s. People who have been affected by the years of cannabis prohibition will finally get some weight lifted off their shoulders. One of these measures will be the expunging of criminal records for those convicted with small cannabis offences.
Although you won’t see any cannabis dispensaries or cafe’s soon around NY. First a there will be a governing agency set up for regulating all new laws and regulations. This will take about a year and well be able to quickly see cannabis businesses pop up around New York soon! We can’t wait to blaze up in New York! Congratulations!
