Forget Lean: Say Hello To THC Syrup

For a lot of us, the days of drinking lean are over. Oh, and for those who don’t know what lean or Purple Drank is, it’s a mixture of pharmaceutical-grade cough syrup and a fizzy drink like Mountain Dew. It was the cool, hip-hop style of getting legally high once upon a time. But dear friends, we live in the age of legal cannabis. With THC syrup, you have no real need for lean anymore. Let it go, and enter the new era.

More and more people are consuming cannabis by eating it rather than smoking it. With edibles on the rise, the cannabis industry is always coming up with new ideas about how to eat weed. THC Syrup is one of those fantastic new ideas – not quite an edible, not quite a drink, but somewhere in between. And one thing is for sure, it’s much better for you than Purple Drank.

If you want to put the days of lean behind you (we’ll give you a lot of reasons to later in the article), but you don’t want to stop getting crunk on something syrupy, there is a solution. There’s THC Syrup – it’s twice the fun of Lean and it doesn’t have all of the negative side effects.

What Is THC Syrup?

THC Syrup

Well, imagine your pharmacy purchased cough syrup, only the codeine has been replaced with THC. Now you have THC syrup. Essentially, it is a liquid mixture that contains activated cannabinoids. You can either consume it as it is or mix it into smoothies and beverages. This is kind of how THC Syrup got nicknamed “weed lean”.

What makes THC Syrup different from a cannabis oil is its solubility in drinks. Usually, if you have wanted to consume cannabis as a liquid, you had to buy one of those sugary weed drinks from your dispensary. Now, you can dissolve THC syrup in your coffee, in smoothies or in any of your favorite fizzy drinks.

THC syrup isn’t an edible, and it’s not a drink. It’s absorbed a little bit faster than an edible. For medical users, this would mean faster (pain) relief. While some of it will go through your digestive system (you’re drinking it after all), you’ll absorb some of it through the aqueous membrane of the mouth, straight into the blood.

What’s the difference between THC syrup and lean?

The most apparent difference between THC syrup and lean is that THC syrup contains cannabinoids while lean contains codeine. Cannabinoids are good for you while codeine is addictive and it can cause havoc in your digestive system and your liver. Codeine can be lethal if the dose is too high. We all know that there has never been one reported incidence of an overdose on cannabinoids (because it’s impossible). In a country where there is currently an opioid epidemic, we don’t need more people using lean. Okay – end rant. We know that shit is terrible for you.

THC syrup, on the other hand, is remedial. Of course, you can use it for recreational purposes, especially if you don’t really like smoking, but even medical cannabis patients can use THC syrup. It’s easy to consume, fast acting and it contains the healing properties of THC.

What are the benefits of THC syrup?

The cannabis industry has been raving about the medicinal benefits of cannabinoids for quite some time now. These days, it seems that CBD gets a lot more attention than THC when it comes to medical properties, but we should never forget the potent health benefits of THC. There is a massive list of reasons why someone would choose to use THC medicinally. Here are some of them:

  • Analgesic (pain relieving)
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Antiemetic (anti-nausea and vomiting)
  • A sleep aid
  • Increases appetite
  • Increases sensory sensitivity
  • Muscle relaxant
  • Anticonvulsant
  • Antioxidant

And that’s seriously just to name a few. It’s a little bit controversial about whether or not THC should be used for mental illnesses because it’s psychoactive. However, many people report feeling euphoric after consuming THC. And if you’ve ever smoked weed before, you know what they’re talking about. So let’s not neglect two of the most powerful healing mechanisms of THC: it feels excellent and it makes you laugh… a lot!

We briefly mentioned earlier that THC syrup is faster acting than consuming edibles. This is due to its liquid state rather than being solid. For medical cannabis marijuana users, this can be considered an advantage over edibles.

How is THC syrup made and can you make your own?

The THC syrup that you purchase in dispensaries is probably just a syrup infused with THC. The infusion is easy. You simply mix the THC extract with the syrup. For the most part, syrups contain sugar, glycerin, and water. Pretty simple, right? It’s so simple that you can make your own THC syrup at home.

The best way to do this is to purchase a THC oil or an extract such as shatter or wax. Shatter and wax is easily soluble in your sugary mix and there’ no need to strain out plant material. Just mix your water and sugar in a pot and let it come to the boil. Add your shatter or wax and turn down the heat. Let it simmer until the syrup is the consistency and texture that you like. Then let it cool! Always be careful how much shatter or wax you added, as that will help you understand how to dose.

CBD syrup is a thing too!

THC syrup isn’t the only cannabinoid syrup you can get at dispensaries. You can also purchase CBD syrup. For those who don’t know, CBD is like THC’s grown up older brother. It is non-psychoactive but still contains many of the healing powers that we know and love about THC.

It works just the same way as THC Syrup except that you’ll be ingesting CBD instead. It might sound less fun, but for medical cannabis patients who want the medical benefits without being stoned, CBD syrup is an easy product to use.

So forget lean – Try THC syrup instead!

We already talked about all the reasons why you shouldn’t drink lean anymore. We don’t need to go into that again. On a more positive note, THC syrup is good for you and it’s healthier than smoking cannabis! Next time you find yourself reaching for the cough syrup, remember your herbal alternative: cannabis!

I notice in your article you mention just adding shatter or wax to a syrup to make your own but shatter & wax need to be decarbolated before it will work for consumption. Now if you use a RSO or extract sauce that is already decarbolated it’s fine but shatter & wax are meant for vapin unless you decarbolate first.
