Biden: There’s No Proof That Cannabis Isn’t A Gateway Drug

Last Saturday, 2020 candidate Joe Biden said there’d need to be more research into cannabis’ effects before he’d ever federally legalize the plant, especially to be sure to rule out whether cannabis is it’s a “gateway drug.”

This is not the first anti-cannabis statement we hear from Joe Biden. He already stated that weed should remain illegal as a misdemeanor a couple of weeks ago. Several 2020 candidates have proposed to end the war on drugs and legalize cannabis. During his time as a vice president, he supported decriminalization rather than legalization.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse says in a blog post that “some research suggests that marijuana use is likely to precede use of other licit and illicit substances.” However, most marijuana users “do not go on to use other, harder’ substances,” it states.

As a presidential candidate, you should know that the gateway myth has been debunked a long time ago. If you want to read more about the topic, check out this article.
